When Should You Use Lavrio Port?
Use Lavrio when your ticket says Lavrio. That sounds obvious, and every summer we still meet people standing at Piraeus with a Kea ticket. Kea (Tzia) and Kythnos are the classic Lavrio routes. The port authority also lists ferries to Andros, Tinos, Syros, Lemnos, Agios Efstratios, Psara and Kavala, but Santorini, Mykonos and Crete are not on its list.

How Far Is Lavrio from Athens Airport?
Expect roughly 40 kilometres by road. In clear traffic the drive is often 35 to 45 minutes south-east of the airport, bypassing the dense centre of Athens. That is one of Lavrio’s underrated advantages: you are not fighting Syntagma traffic to reach the quay.
In summer, especially around weekend peaks, plan for up to an hour. Roadworks and holiday outbound traffic can add time even on this relatively clean corridor. If your ferry wants you at the quay well before sailing, a “40-minute” map estimate is not a plan. It is a hope.

Official taxis are available 24/7 from the airport rank at Exit 3. Lavrio is outside the central Athens flat-fare zone, so the taximeter applies: €1.80 to start, €0.90 per km on the day tariff or €1.25 per km on the night tariff, plus a €4 airport surcharge (Government Gazette B 5674, 18 September 2026). Ask the driver for an estimate before you leave.
Agree the destination clearly
Say “Lavrio Port” or “Lavrion Port ferry terminal,” not just “Lavrio.” Ask for an estimate of the metered total and check the meter is running when the car moves.

Ferry Timing: How Much Buffer After Landing?
Build the buffer from real steps: landing → passport control if needed → bags → transfer → port check-in. For Lavrio we like a minimum of about 2.5 to 3 hours between scheduled arrival and ferry departure in summer if you already hold tickets. More is better after long-haul flights.
